Ceramic Painting Workshop with Alix Soubiran

Ceramic Painting Workshop with Alix Soubiran

Saturday, October 18th
9am - 10:30am (EST)

Registration is limited to 11 participants. Cost includes all materials and supplies.

Join us at our New York shop for a Saturday morning ceramic painting workshop with Los Angeles based artist Alix Soubiran. Fans of Nickey Kehoe will recognize Alix from her beautiful hand sculpted ceramics. In this beginner friendly class, Alix will guide participants through glazing techniques and an exploration of traditional Delftware design elements

Alix will provide a handmade and fired ceramic plate, participants will paint decorative borders around the plate's rim, followed by a central motif that might feature a serene landscape, a floral composition, or a stylized pattern. She will also show them to gently antique the surface, giving the plate an heirloom- like appearance. Workshop fee includes all materials and instruction.

Delftware, also known as Delft Blue, refers to the iconic blue-and-white tin-glazed pottery that originated in the Dutch city of Delft in the 17th century. Influenced by imported Chinese porcelain, Dutch potters developed their own version using earthenware coated in a white tin glaze, which provided a bright surface for cobalt blue decoration.

Completed pieces will be fired off-site and available for pickup the week of 11/3. Participants may also have their pieces mailed at request.
