Song of Apollo’s Priestesses, Crete

Song of Apollo’s Priestesses, Crete

Song of Apollo’s Priestesses, Ancient Olive Grove, Crete, Greece by Joslyn Lawrence for Song of Absolution. Framed Photograph on Paper.

The new series of photographic prints from Song of Absolution is a listening to the call of ancient lands and ancestors; where memories are held in stone and the trees are witness to past lives and evolution. Sacred sites, crumbling walls of Minoan era temples forgotten in olive groves hundreds of years old… the land tells its stories through the lens, connecting timelines and drawing us closer to the past.

"This trip was a pilgrimage of sorts, following dreams of Athena, asking me to walk certain pathways to close open books for her.  For weeks before I left, I saw a great horned owl every night and one built its nest in the tree above my house.  All I did was listen with a hope to translate and share some of the magic of where and how I was being led. They are intended as an activation of best and former selves and to invoke a certain prosperity of heart when the land provided abundance for all." Joslyn Lawrence

The Song of Absolution series is a poem to the land as it changes form and has become a photographic archive, honoring sentient forests that live far beyond our lifetimes. The series is a collaboration between artists Joslyn Lawrence and Brian Kuhlmann. It has taken them traveling over the globe photographing indigenous trees and disappearing landscapes for the past two decades.Their work has been widely collected over the years. Their wish is that the trees far outlast the archives, bringing people closer to the medicine of the wild.
